Novelist
Mark Haddon has won the inaugural Booktrust Teenage Prize
for his book The
Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time.
It is his second prize in less than a month after he recently
won the Guardian Children's Fiction Prize. He also featured
on this years Booker Prize longlist.
Haddon's book is about an autistic teenager, Christopher
Boone, who sets out to investigate the death of a neighbour's
dog.
The book was released simultaneously as both an adult title
by Jonathon Cape and a children's title by Divid Fickling
Books. The author admits that, despite having written a
number of children's picture books, he pitched this book
more at adult readers.
The judging panel for the Teenage Book Prize included actress
Julie Fernandez and writer Catherine Johnson, who were joined
by three young readers.
Haddon picked up his £1,500 prize money and trophy
at a ceremony in London attended by all the shortlisted
authors.
