'The
Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time' by Mark Haddon
has been included on the longlist for this years Booker
Prize. It is only the second time a children's book
has been selected.
The longlist, announced last Friday (15th August), contains
23 titles including books by literary heavyweights such
as Martin Amis and Margaret Atwood.
A shortlist of six authors will be announced on 16 September
each writer receiving a cheque for £2,500. The winner
of the final £50,000 award will be announced on 14
October at a ceremony in London, which will be broadcast
on BBC Four.
The Booker Prize for Fiction was originally set up by Booker
plc in 1969 to reward merit, raise the stature of the author
in the eyes of the public and encourage an interest in contemporary
quality fiction.
The judging panel for the Man Booker Prize for Fiction
2003 is: writer, academic and broadcaster Professor John
Carey (Chair); writer, academic and critic A.C. Grayling;
record-breaking mountaineer and journalist Rebecca Stephens,
