Book summary:

A boy called Joshua is trying to find his father because it has been a year since he went to sea on a whaler and all contact has been lost. Joshua stows away on an old sailing ship to find his father retracing the last known steps of his father


Book's strengths:
Which characters did you especially like and why?

Joshua the son - he showed great courage and a not for quitting spirit even when things get really tough


Which parts of the storyline really worked well and why?:

The story of the Lindisfarne log, the log from his father's last ship. It is told as a diary and is found on a deserted beach with the wreckage of The Lindisfarne


What did you enjoy about the writers style?:

The descriptions make you think you are there - they are so well written
.


Book weakness:
Which characters in the book were less believable or interesting?

Flint - he was a very mean man who changed the atmosphere whenever he was around


Which parts of the book were difficult to follow or not believable?:

That a boy so young could last in the Arctic for 1 year with so little equipment or support


When did the writer's style not work as well?:

This did not happen  


Summary of the book:

Well set out and very interesting nearing the end I started to think I was Joshua Compass and I think Stephen Potts should write a sequel and the ending has been left open for that
