Terry Trueman

Terry Truman is the author of the recently published book Stuck In Neutral. Terry lives in the inland Pacific Northwest of the USA, just outside the city of Spokane in the state of Washington and is the father of two sons. He has taught in numerous Universities and Colleges in the US for many years and has also taught in Australia and Honduras, he recently began teaching writing and literature classes on live television. Although Terry has published numerous poems, stories and reviews Stuck In Neutral is his first book. It is about Shawn, a 14 year old boy suffering from sever cerebral palsy and is loosely based on his own experiences, Terry's first son, Henry Sheehan McDaniel Trueman, suffers from cerebral palsy. Stuck In Neutral has already achieved critical acclaim in the USA where it was selected as a Printz* honour book in January 2001.

Stuck in Neutral marks the arrival of a fine new writer.

David Almond

As Terry explains 'Stuck In Neutral is based on what I imagine my son Henry Sheehan's life could be like'. The book offers an insightful perspective into the mind of a cerebral palsy sufferer but also puts the condition in a medical, social and cultural context. The storyline of the book is compelling, fascinating and above all moving.

We recently met up with Terry while he was in Britain promoting his book, why not read our interview with him. If you would like to know more about Terry he has two excellent websites www.terrytrueman.com and www.truemannews.com. If you want to know more about cerebral palsy why not visit the website of Scope, the disibility organisation focusing on cerebral palsy.
