Robin
Kingsland was born in Keynsham, near Bristol. He trained
as a teacher but gave up teaching to pursue a career on
the stage and in broadcasting. Robin's first children's
book was published in 1988 and since then he has written
over 30 books for children.
Robin
is married with two children and he and his wife love ravelling.
A few years ago they toured around Europe in a green Camper
van which they loved. Unfortunately the van was stolen so
Robin is now in the process of renovating another!
A
career in the pop world beckoned when he was younger as
a keen drummer, pianist and singer but not a very good guitarist!.
When
not writing Robin is probably acting, or puppeteering. He
played the Chief Engineer Dogsbody in the BBC's Space Vets.
Robin's
O.A.Peabody book, "There are Pharaohs at the Bottom of my
Garden" was shortlisted for The Children's Book of the
Year Award 1996.
The
Crabtree Chronicles, published by Hodder Children's
Books, are a mixture of historical facts combined with Robin's
own particular sense of humour which has been likened to
that of the hit television series Blackadder. Each
story sees Eddie Crabtree tracing each of his ancestors
back to different periods in time with very humorous results.
