I was
born in Sheffield, later living in Leicester, Merseyside
and Lancashire before going to university in Nottingham,
where I've stayed ever since.
I've
worked as a street sweeper, conservation ranger, Credit
Union officer and teacher. My first novel, The Foggiest
was published in 1990. Since 1994, I've been a full time
writer.
The
twelve book Beat series ran from O94 to 2000. Most of my
early books were crime novels for Young Adults, but I've
been doing a wider range of stuff more recently, including
several books for reluctant readers', a collection of short
stories Haunting Time, Five Leaves a historical novel
for younger readers, The Right Moment, a YA novel
about last year's Glastonbury festival, Festival and
the YA novel Love Lessons, which appears to have
slowly become some kind of best seller.
