Our Bookbus
 As
part of our commitment to promoting books in new and exciting
ways we have a Double-decker Bookbus that is available for
bookfairs, fund-raising events, celebration days, school
visits, insets, promos and all literacy events. The bus
enables children, teachers and parents to see a large selection
of books in a way that is both convenient and exciting.
School Visits
The Bookbus arrives at 10am and works with whole class groups
(up to a maximum of 32) for a minimum of 30 minutes per
session. Our outreach worker works with the visitors to
the bus, they talk about their relationship with books,
magazines, comics etc. They also look at different genres
and books that have made an impact on the young readers,
drawing from them experiences of books that have caught
their imagination and captured their emotions. We try to
encourage reading for inspiration and fun as well as knowledge,
believing that words are like bridges, the more you have
the further you get!
Resource Visits
The bookbus is also ideal for those who cannot visit
our Resource Centre. It is available to nursery and school
staff for inset or staff meetings to choose books. You specify
your needs and we'll put together a selection to meet you
needs, e.g. books for book corners, group readers, big books,
those to meet outcomes of N.L.S. and numeracy strategies,
P.S.H.E., Citizenship, multicultural books, the list is
endless!
Please note that this service is
only available in the Greater and Outer London area and
some areas on the periphery of London including parts of
Kent, Essex and the Home Counties.
Advanced booking is strongly recommended
for this service to avoid disappointment. On enquiring about
the bookbus it is helpful if you have a clear idea of the
dates that are preferable to you. It is also helpful if
you can tell us the age ranges or reading abilities you
wish to be catered for so that our staff can endeavour to
meet your requirements fully.
