Patience
Agbabi
Patience
Agbabi was born in 1965. She was educated at Pembroke College,
Oxford and the Performance Poetry Scene, London. She lives in
London and works as a writer, performance poet and workshop coordinator
in the UK and abroad. Gecko Press publishes her book R.A.W., a
collection of her poetry.
Sharp
and uncompromising, Patience Agbabi articulates a 90's culture.
She
moves fluidly between belongings, defying any easy definitions
of 'Black' and 'female'. Musically inspired, Patience Agbabi refines
and redefines language, taking influences from sources as varied
as rap, punk, ska and blues, along with the work of other poets
such as Benjamin Zephaniah and Merle Collins.
Patience
Agbabi has performed extensively from Johannesburg to Hamburg,
and all over the UK. Her poetry has appeared on BBC2, Radio 5
and the Jazz/Poetry album One Hell Of A Storm, Tongue
& Groove. It has also been published in several magazines,
journals and anthologies, including The Virago Book Of Wicked
Verse, Virago Press Ltd.
