AUTHOR VISITS
Andrew Fusek Peters

Andrew Fusek PetersAndrew works nationwide giving lively performances and running workshops with all ages and abilities.

He appears regularly at literary festivals. His work is supported by the Arts Council, The Poetry Society, LEAs and RABs and is studied in Creating Writers (Routledge).

He was recently Poet-in-residence in Warwickshire for a year, working in schools throughout the age range. The project and resulting book of pupils' poems and illustrations, A Pint Of Unleaded Please, were highly praised in the Ofsted review Artists in Schools and the DFEE white paper: All our Futures: Creativity, Culture & Education.

"A great set of poems...full of life, imagination and energy / love it!"
Michael Rosen

"A remarkable achievement... goes a long way to challenge any idea that poetry cannot be taught, or that young people cannot tackle highly demanding forms and concepts of verse."
TES (TES poem of the week)

He can perform to large groups and run workshops with small groups from reception up to sixth-form, plus inset for all abilities, including SLD. His interest lies in validating the riches of imagination through exploring improvisation, metaphor and structure. Workshops aim to show that poetry and storytelling can be a powerful tool for language development and self-expression. He can work with one-off visits, or over a longer residency leading to showcase and/or publication.

Recent TV work includes Blue Peter, The Big Breakfast, Heart of the Country and the children's poetry series on BBC1 Wham Bam Strawberry Jam for which he was writer/presenter. He is currently writing and presenting for Carlton Country, Heart of the Country and the BBC Choice Series Mark Owen's Celebrity Scooters. Radio work includes Poetry Please, Talking Poetry and Kaleidoscope.
Andrew has written a teenage collection, Poems With Attitude with Polly Peters, an experienced English & drama teacher and playwright. These hard hitting and humorous poems are published by Hodder Wayland.

"Amusing poems 2nd gems that make you think about real issues."
Daily Telegraph

"The poems work beautifully as performance poetry and unlike many poetry books for teenagers, they address issues such as bullying, drugs, stereotyping and that first kiss, as well as being very funny If you thought poetry wasn't for you because it has nothing to do with your life, try reading this collection!"
Young Writer

Schools' Quotes

Myfanwy Hill-Smith, Infant Headteacher

"All pupils (from year 7 to Lower Sixth) felt that their time had been both valuably and enjoyably spent. Many felt that it had been the most important thing they had done in the whole of their school careers."
Steve Martin, Farmors' English Department

"he inspires trust in young people. He entertained and enthused 165 Year 9's for the last hour of a Friday afternoon with poetry, folk tales, street language, rhythms and sounds (surely a complete testimonial by itself!)"
Paul Robinson, English Advisor, Avon County

"His versatility as a performance poet, storyteller and musician make Andrew an ideal 'artist in residence' for any school interested in exploring the creative exchange of ideas and responses between the expressive and verbal arts."
Angela Lamond, Head of English, Maidenhill School

"This project was a significant life event for my child. He's gone into secondary school now and in terms of his language work, it gave him so much confidence. It was a real breakthrough"
